What is hair loss?

The life cycle of hair growth consists of three stages: anagen, which refers to active hair growth, lasting between two to six years, whilst catagen refers to transitional hair growth, lasting two to three weeks. Lastly, telogen represents a resting phase which lasts between two to three months, with hair being shed and replaced by new hair at the end of this phase.

However, as people age, the rate of hair growth tends to slow down. This is because more hair follicles go into the resting phase, telogen, which causes the remaining hairs to become fewer in number.
